Throughout history, a total of 6 Dutch canoe slalom athletes have competed at the Olympics. In Barcelona 1992, Athens 2004 and last time in Beijing 2008. Because The Netherlands has an extra national requirement to be sent to the Games, it is extra difficult for us to qualify and get that starting ticket! But it also makes it more special that we have a starting place again at the Games 12 years later!

Because we have been absent at the Games for 12 years we aren’t a targeted sport, which gives us an extra challenge, financially. At the end of last year I started a fundraise campaign to help cover cost to attend the first Olympic training camps on the Olympic venue. In our sport ‘home course advantage’ is huge and more time on the course is very valuable.

It was an unique experience to be training in Tokyo! Every time we on the water we get reminded why we here and it makes the Olympic feels closer and closer and more real!
The course is beautifully located in Kasai Rinkai Park, near Disneyland Tokyo. At one end we have views on Mt Fuji and on the other side a ginormous fairy wheel. I feel very privileged to be able to attend those camps, train and to be representing The Netherlands in July!

I wanted to do a HUGE shoutout to everyone who helped, donate and supported me!! Especially my sister who designed those beautiful cards for me! 🙂
I still have a few cards and posters left, so if you missed out on the campaign but would love to have some, please contact me.
