MTD signs on as a major sponsor of Dutch Olympic athlete Martina Wegman (English)

Martina is the only Dutch Olympic whitewater canoe slalom competitor in Team NL, racing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Martina is excited about this opportunity to work with MTD and the significant support it will provide her on the long and costly “Road to Tokyo”. The synergy between Wegman’s passion for whitewater in the dynamic and changing environment creates an incredible partnership for MTD and our philosophy of being flexible, adjusting and surviving in the dynamic, ever-changing environment of daily life. Wegman adds; “MTD’s support helps cover the financial shortfall of the Olympic build up. It also means I can attend valuable training camps in Tokyo on the Olympic course gaining a competitive advantage and allowing me to arrive in Tokyo with an un-compromised, Olympic campaign. I am incredible grateful for their support!” 

In Holland, Canoe Slalom is an emerging sport and is largely self-funded by the Dutch athletes competing on the World stage. Wegman’s recent successes have helped put Canoe Slalom on the map and started to form a great relationship with the Netherlands Olympic Committee / Netherlands Sport Federation (NOC*NSF), however the reality is that athletes from ‘un-target sports’ who win a ticket to compete for Holland at the Olympic Games have to cover a large amount of their costs or find sponsorships. This is more important for Tokyo where it’s vital for Wegman to travel regularly to Tokyo for trainings camps with her coach and trainer, as well as basing in the Southern Hemisphere to train efficiently during the European winter. MTD is happy to be able to help get Wegman to the Olympic start and support her to be successful in Tokyo.
